Things to do in Pune when you don’t have a group yet
A practical way to choose a game, trek or local hangout in Pune: start with your area, check the details and find a plan you can join on your own.
New to Pune, or just ready to meet people beyond work and college? Start with one activity you would enjoy anyway. A game gives you something to do together; a workshop gives you something to talk about. You don’t need to arrive with a ready-made group.
Explore current events in Pune to see what is actually available. The ideas below are starting points, not a schedule of confirmed events.
Start with your part of Pune
Choose how far you want to travel before choosing the activity. If you’re around Baner or Aundh, start by looking for a game or hangout nearby. If home or college is closer to Viman Nagar, Kharadi or Kothrud, check those areas first. A plan you can reach comfortably is easier to repeat.
Read the exact address. An event labelled “Pune” may have a venue, pickup point or trailhead outside your usual neighbourhood. For an after-work plan, leave room between your last meeting and the start time. For a weekend trip, check where you’ll return as well as where you’ll leave from.
Only have an hour or two? Try a game or chai
A badminton session or a cricket game can give a first meeting some structure. Before joining, check whether the group welcomes beginners, whether equipment is included and how the court or turf cost is shared. Ask about the expected duration if you have another commitment afterwards.
For something quieter, look for a café hangout or put a chai plan out to your circle. Check the group size, meeting point and whether food and drinks are included or paid for separately. A small plan can be enough for a first visit.
Have a morning free? Consider a trek
The Sahyadris are part of many Pune weekend plans, but two treks can ask very different things of you. Read the route, difficulty, walking time and meeting instructions. Ask the organiser about transport, required gear and the return time before deciding.
Check current weather and organiser updates close to departure. A photograph of a green hillside doesn’t tell you whether a particular route is open or suitable that day. Choose a plan whose requirements match your experience.
Want to try something new? Look for a workshop
Pottery and other hands-on sessions give you an activity to focus on while getting to know the people around you. Check whether a session is intended for beginners, what materials are included and what you can take home. If you’re coming alone, ask whether people work individually or in pairs.
Before you book
- Check the date, venue and meeting point, not just the activity name.
- Read the host’s details and see who’s going where that information is available.
- Confirm the total price and what it includes.
- Read the cancellation terms for that particular booking.
- Ask the host about any unanswered questions before paying.
